Special Event Lighting | What is a Gobo?

If this is your first time planning a special event, you are probably baffled when you hear the term “Gobo.” A gobo is a design cut into a steel plate and placed over a lighting fixture to create that design on a wall, floor, or other surface. They are very useful for carrying visual themes throughout your event.

Paper Lanterns in the Pavilion

Adding paper lanterns to the Pavilion was one of the first lighting packages we ever offered at CJ’s Off the Square. Since we began, it has become one of our favorite looks. The paper lanterns add a touch of whimsy and romance that is also perfect for any event in our garden. Our Paper Lantern Package is available in a wide variety of colors. From traditional white, which glow in a warm gold in the evening, to rosy tropical hues to classic black and white, paper lanterns are the perfect accent for your next event at CJ’s Off the Square.

Day or night, the Paper Lantern package adds a great look to any event.

White, dark purple and lavendar lanterns look great as the sun is about to set at CJ's Off the Square. Our Garden String Light package can been seen in the background.

The wicker balls are the newest addition to our Paper Lantern package. They are the perfect accent to any event and focus on highlighting the natural or rustic elements of their setting.

Add Color to Your Event with Lighting

A great way to customize the look of any event is with custom lighting. Nothing else so dramatically changes the look and feel of an event space. At CJ’s Off the Square, we offer several custom lighting packages to help our clients create the one of a kind style they desire. One of our favorites is the Pavilion Color Wash package. Shown here at three events,  bringing color throughout the room using lighting, rather than just using colored linens and flowers, highlights the event style and will really “WOW!” your guests.

In addition to the Pavilion Color Wash package, this client added custom gobos to the dance floor to further emphasize her wedding style.

Purple was the featured color for Megan and Jeremy's fall wedding. They also used lighting to create a unique table top effect with gobos. In the background, the garden string lights complete the look.

A warm, amber glow made this winter event in the pavilion feel cozy. This client chose to add our "Paper Lantern" lighting package to the "Pavilion Color Wash" package and selected these unique wicker ball style lanterns.

String Lights in the Garden
