The Seasons at CJ’s

We love how the seasons change here at CJ’s, and there isn’t one that we think isn’t beautiful. However, we realize that while we know how our venue looks and feels at different times of the year, you may not! Let us give you a little insight.

APRIL

Spring is the true start of our busy time here at CJ’s Off the Square. April is the first month that we allow access to our gardens after the winter thaw. The azaleas come into bloom typically the second weekend of the April and last for two to three weeks. Several clients have booked these weekends over the years so they can take advantage of these beautiful, fluffy, white flowers! Our gorgeous dogwood tree also blooms in late April – one of my favorites. The canopy of our trees doesn’t fully grown in until the end of April,  so if you like lots of light and blossoms on the trees, that’s your month! Keep in mind that CJ’s never holds events on the weekend of the Franklin Main Street Festival (typically the last weekend of April) due to immense traffic and carnival noise.

MAY- SEPTEMBER

Once our canopy of leaves (including maple, walnut, hackberry and pecan trees, plus our evergreen pines and magnolias) has grown in by the first week of May, the Gardens stay relatively unchanged for the next five months. Green, lush, and shady throughout this time, our venue feels very private and secluded – a quiet oasis in the midst of bustling Downtown Franklin. You will see and hear our feathered friends, especially robins, cardinals, and even the occasional cedar waxwing. Favorite visitors are the lightning bugs, mainly in late May and early June – nothing like looking out into the Garden and seeing scores of twinkling lights! Also, our koi fish are especially active in the early summer months – lots of splashing and playing!

OCTOBER

October is the most changeable month of the year here, and is the favorite month of both myself and CJ – it starts off with all the green of Summer, but ends with the bright colors of Fall. Generally we see the change begin about the third weekend of the month, and it builds gradually as we head into November. Fall colors in our Gardens are primarily gold and purple, with a few touches of red and orange.

NOVEMBER

If bold colors and falling leaves is what you’re looking for, CJ’s is in November is the place for you! Our Japanese maple is a vibrant plum and the dogwood is a deep burgundy, and the upper canopy becomes a mix of bright yellow and mustard gold. The Gardens close after the Thanksgiving holiday once all the leaves have been shed and the air becomes much colder.

DECEMBER-MARCH
Winter use of CJ’s is restricted to our beautiful event Pavilion (enclosed and heated) and historic Home, and as such winter bookings always have a lower price. From Thanksgiving to New Year’s, our Holiday decor is in full effect, perfect for company parties and winter weddings. With the many creative lighting skills offered by Nashville Event Lighting, even January-March events can look spectacular in the Pavilion! Our fireplaces will be roaring and warm bevvies like Hot White Chocolate and Spiced Cider will make for the most romantic atmosphere!

We’ll even show you CJ’s in the snow. Brr! :)

I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at CJ’s through the seasons and are picking your favorite date to host your next event or plan that big day!

Garden Grace | Joy + Jeremy | May 21

A lovely May day suited perfectly for our Garden in green and ivory shades. Joy was especially beautiful in her gown from The Bride Room. Congratulations to the happy couple, and our many thanks to Brooke Kelly for sharing her photos!

I love this picture of Reggie, the owner and driver of our 1939 Packard specialty getaway car! What a jokester. :)

Retro Romance | Miranda + Grant | May 14

What can I say – having uniquely stylish clients is the BEST! Miranda & Grant were truly one of a kind. They had a solid vision and it was a delight to help them bring it to life. Of special assistance on this day was Matt Lovell of Lovello Designs, who created some specialty, handmade projects to express the couple’s personality. Check out his gorgeous paper flower arch above our front entrance, the portrait frames suspended from the trees, and the perfectly arranged tabletops, complete with props found specifically for them. Great job team! The Bake Shoppe and Enchanted Florist truly created some extraordinary work for this event. And our thanks to Ace Photography for sharing images with us.

Timeless Style | Beth + Kye | May 7

Beth & Kye’s style was both timeless and totally cutting edge, which was a fantastic experience! Read more about the spectacular menu we created for them here on WedCandy, and enjoy perusing their soft, classic style in the photos below! Many thanks to Hyon Smith for sharing his photography with us.

Wedding Style Ideas | Spring Open House | Gray + Yellow

Many thanks to our entire team for their fantastic work at our Spring Open House in May 2011, and to Phindy Studios who came out to capture it here for you all to see (or perhaps re-see!). I’ve been wanting to see this color scheme here at CJ’s for years, and CJ and Ashley did a wonderful job guiding our vendors to put together a stellar evening. Enjoy!

Sweet Simplicity | Chelsea + Brandon | April 9

Spring wedding photos are pouring in and we are excited to share these beautiful pics of Chelsea and Brandon, married at CJ’s Off the Square on April 9. Thank you to Justin Wright for sharing this lovely pictures with us!

Glamorous Garden Style | Natalie + Jon | April 2

When my dear friend Jon texted me – “I’m getting married!! And she [Natalie] loves CJ’s!” – I couldn’t WAIT to get to work on their big day!

It was also our first chance to have Brandon Chesbro shoot here. He and I have been wanting to work together for a long time, and I think you can see why! We’re lucky to have him three times this year, so check back for more from him.

Coffee

They wanted a sleek, glamorous style in a classic black and cream color scheme, and just a little bit of bling. Caprice created a fantastic look for the gazebo with silver magnolia leaves and crystal strands, and we carried that over to the centerpieces as well.

Because this was a late evening ceremony, we followed it up with a fantastic dessert reception, complete with custom coffee bar. What a treat for the senses! We even added the “Cuban” to their menu – a delicious drink made with sweetened condensed milk and espresso (YUM).

Classic Black and White Sparkle | Jen + Andy | May 8

If you like sparkle – this the wedding for you! Jen & Andy went for a classic black, white, and silver look with lots of bling and lots of light! Even their cake from Maples Wedding Cakes was adorned in brooches! The clustered pillar candles and glass cylinders kept candlelight bouncing and reflecting all night. Their photographer, Jenna of JHenderson Studios even created a bit of a Twilight moment out in the Gazebo!

For more photos of their beautiful garden wedding and pavilion reception in historic downtown Franklin, TN, visit the CJ’s Off the Square full Facebook gallery.

Thanks for choosing CJ’s, Jen & Andy – we absolutely loved working with you! And thanks to Jenna Henderson for this one-in-a-million shot she snuck up on me! :)

Garden Romance | Jenn + Jason | May 15

Jennifer and Jason’s beautiful May garden wedding (on one of my favorite weekends of the year) was just stunning. The bold purples and pinks mixed with the amazing weather and the sounds of the birds – well, it just made for an utterly romantic atmosphere! Enjoy these pictures from The Photographix, and make sure to check out our WeddingWire feature on this outdoor wedding!

Spring Love | Jennifer + Mike | April 17

Jennifer & Mike were married in an afternoon ceremony in the CJ’s garden on Saturday, April 17th. We couldn’t ask for a more fun couple to kick off our 2010 Spring season. We shared so many laughs (and a couple glasses of wine!) during their planning process and had a great time creating a bright, colorful vision for their wedding. They used the fantastic Hatch Show Print for their Save The Dates, Invitations, and take home favor posters in bold orange, green, and pink colors, which matched their candy bar perfectly.

Ceremony Seating

I just adored Jen’s spring bouquet of multi-colored tulips!

Jen couldn’t wait to get on her brand new boots purchased especially for the wedding!

Jen & Mike met at work and are big fans of The Office – I thought these little nods to the show were so clever. ;) Our very own Jim & Pam!

And thanks to Jen & Mike for being a dream to work with, and christening our new Pavilion with such a perfect spring wedding!
